Examples of Infractions within the Halls and their Punishments

Insubordination: Varying upon degree, ranging from water rations to latrine duty to quarter-confinement.

Purposeful destruction of the Hall: Payment of all damages, either in money or time.

Damage of the Hall's reputation: Depending upon degree, ranging from confinement to stripping of rank.

Stealing: Return of stolen item(s) or appropriate payment, plus 3-5 days water rations and confinement.

Major Punishments

Stripping of rank: one of the most severe punishments, this is a demotion to a lower rank. A ceremony accompanies the removal of rank.

Banishment from the Hall: The most severe punishment, a person is stripped of all rank and cannot return in person for life. This punishment is very rare, usually only given out for blatant disregard of a senior person's duty to Pern. The person is also 'black-listed', where all other Halls are notified of the crafter's failure. Holds are not, however, in order that the person may continue to be productive to society.
