History of the Weyr

The Pernese were drawn to the Southern end of Icundsa Lake by the iron and cromcoal deposits in the Southern Mountain Range. The resources were too valuable to pass by and, with people settling in the area, it became clear that a new Weyr would need to be established. The caldera of what is now known as Icundsa Weyr was discovered two Turns before the start of the present pass when Bronzerider T'yrn and Goldrider Jalnah, who had agreed to take part in the search for a new Weyr, were flying over the Southern Mountain Range and stumbled across a likely location for a Weyr.

After the discovery of the Icundsa Weyr caldera, preparation of the Weyr was taken over by Goldrider Tujeye, a Weyrwoman's Second from High Reaches Weyr. A turn and a half later, the Weyr was opened. As the rider of the eldest queen, Tujeye became Weyrwoman. Having just had a flight, Jalnah and Dualth's arrival was delayed by a month while Dualth's clutch was still on the Sands at Telgar Weyr.

With two gold dragons in the Weyr, the only two queens that could be spared from the North at that time, the first gold flight was eagerly awaited. In Month Seven Tujeye's Cozoth rose and was caught by T'yrn's bronze Guhrath, who became Weyrleader.

All seemed to be going well for the Weyr, but tragedy struck in Month Nine of that Turn.  An unexpected rock slide devistated the Weyr, killing many people, including Weyrwoman Tujeye and the visiting Lord Holder of Aedalu Hold. Tujeye's Cozoth jumped /between/ in the panic, leaving the Weyr with no Senior Queen or the clutch of eggs she was carrying within her.

As the only Goldrider left in the Weyr, Jalnah became Weyrwoman. Her first act as Weyrwoman was to ask the Weyrs of the North for support and new riders, but as relations have deteriorated with the North she only received a few vague promises of riders and no offer of provisions to help with the reconstruction of the Weyr. It was only the hard work of the Weyr and the determination of the Weyrleaders that saw the wings of Icundsa through their first fall with relatively few losses.

Icundsa Weyr was the first Weyr to be established in the Southern Continent (Southern Weyr and Hold were never established because all the Weyrs were full) and patrols Aedalu and Perquiso Holds and their Halls.

Icundsa Weyr is located in the mountains at the southern end of Icundsa Lake. The Weyr is reduced in size from what it orginally was due to the devistating rock slide, but it is still able to contain 250 dragonriders and their support staff when at full capacity.

Icundsa Weyr is led by Weyrwoman Jalnah and Weyrleader A'sel.
