Wingrider I'dor

Persona's Name: I'dor Persona's Location: Icundsa Weyr Status: NPC - Owned ( Caeta ) Rank: Bluerider, Wingrider Former Ranks: Apprentice Vinter, Journeyman Vinter Gender: Male Age: 34 Birth Place: Keroon BeastcraftHall Birthingday: Month 6 Day 2 Father: Journeyman Beastcrafter Dorin Mother: Journeywoman Beastcrafter Iratzel
Appearance:Standing at 5'11" with sandy brown hair and dark hazel eyes, I'dor has regular, even features, and a typical muscular dragonrider build.
He is one of those people it is hard to put an age to - that is, until a much closer look is taken. A more detailed inspection would point out the lines on his face, at complete odds with the almost youthful vitality of his body.
Another would show that his smile never quite manages to overtake his entire facial expression, and his eyes often remain dark. This is not a typical dragonrider.Personality:
Always a self-confident, rather playful child, I'dor grew into a very secure adult with a well-developed sense of humour.
These days, however, the jokes he cracks are a little half-hearted and the grins sometimes falter. Some would say his best quality is his sincerity, his complete inability to pretend to be someone besides himself. He never tries to misrepresent himself as less or more than he is - a very caring, intelligent man, still struggling with some very deep issues.History:
Born to a pair of Beastcrafters in the Keroon BeastcraftHall, I'dor seemed destined to follow in the footsteps of his parents, and nearly every single one of his eight siblings. However, right from the beginning, they realized that he was different. He showed not the slightest interest in animals beyond a mild childish fascination with dragons, and preferred staying inside and reading to mucking around in the stables, or racing around the track. Beastcraft was definitely not I'dor's destiny.
After a rather average childhood, his parents were at a loss as to what to do with him. He didn't seem to have the right temperament for being a Harper, no natural inclination for Healing, Weaving, Smithing, or any other Craft. However, they didn't have to make a decision, because I'dor made it for them. One day, he announced that he wished to become an Apprentice Vintner. Although shocked, his parents agreed to his wishes, and he was sent to the Crafthall. Where this desire came from, they had no idea, but I'dor certainly seemed sure of himself.
I'dor truly enjoyed being a Vintner. He seemed to have a knack for producing the sweetest-tasting products, and enjoyed making something which people enjoyed so much. He walked the tables at age 19, and was sent to a posting at Telgar Weyr, which needed a Journeyman Vintner. He fit in well there, making many friends, who loved his practical jokes and were glad to always be able to turn to him to make them chuckle at the end of a bad day.
It came as a shock, then, when one of his greenrider friends calmly suggested that I'dor stand for the next Hatching, as his dragon seemed to think he should. Flabbergasted, he didn't know what to do. He'd never considered the possibility that he could become a dragonrider, it just hadn't seemed like something he could do. The more he thought about it, the more he had an inclination to agree to do it, if only once to see if maybe his friend's green was right. The thought of having a constant lifemate, and to be able to fly...it seemed like a dream come true, and if it didn't work it, he could always return to his Craft.
After readily agreeing, I'dor found himself waiting nervously at the next Hatching, a few Turns older than most Candidates there, and feeling rather out of place. Nevertheless, the dragon always knows, and he handily Impressed blue Szalanth, much to the amusement of all his friends. Although sorry he had to give up hopes of ever attaining Mastery, he knew it was worth it. Weyrling training presented no difficulties, and in due time, the pair graduated into a fighting wing. It was there that I'dor met Eassyn. Awestruck by her beauty, he never quite understood why she ever showed any interest in him.
Slowly but surely, he fell in love with the vivacious greenrider and after a lengthy four-Turn courtship, the two were weyrmated. Never more content, I'dor fell into a happy little domestic pattern, with Eassyn, his best friend M'gal, and M'gal's weyrmate Caeta. Two Turns after being weyrmated, Eassyn gave birth to their first and only child, a daughter named Iassen. Although they fostered her as most riders did, they played active roles in their daughter's life, making sure that she knew who her real parents were as well.
The first shattering blow came when M'gal was Scored and went /between/. I'dor and Eassyn were sent reeling by the loss of their friend, trying desperately to help Caeta cope. Scant sevendays later, I'dor found himself the same situation, watching as Eassyn and Caleith disappeared forever. Heartbroken, he completely withdrew within himself, little Iassen his only lifeline to the outside world. Piece by tiny piece, he began to try and put his life back together, and to try and keep his promise to M'gal to look over Caeta.
When the Harper decided she wanted to move to the new Weyr being built, I'dor resisted at first, but realized that it made sense. Telgar had too many memories, too many people who pitied and sympathized without helping one bit so I'dor requested a transfer, and took Iassen with him. Life in the South was very different, and it took I'dor several more months to feel at ease at Icundsa. However, he was painstakingly beginning to rebuild everything that had been destroyed when the two people he loved most had died, often finding himself bone-tired and weary, especially after an argument with Caeta, who has been steadfast in her refusal to truly deal, mentally, with the deaths of Eassyn and M'gal. It's been a hard life for I'dor, and his journey isn't even halfway over.
Dragon's Name: Szalanth Dragon's Colour: Blue Dragon's Age: 15 Sire/Dam: Transfer (Hatched at Telgar Weyr) Hatching Date: 14 Turns before Present Pass (Month 1 Day 23)
Dragon's Appearance:Szalanth, although no longer possessing the youthful exuberance of a weyrling, still is a very fit, active dragon, with enough stamina to last almost an entire Fall, which is as good as or better than most blues. He's always been a very powerful flier, with a good wingspan and above average maneuverability.
Dragon's Personality:
Although somewhat more serious than his rider appears to be, Szalanth is nevertheless a perfect match for I'dor, possessing the perfect mixture of sarcasm, intelligence, humour, and sensitivity which carried I'dor through the first few days of trauma, and continues to be one of the main things that carries him through each and every day.
