Appearance:

Tall and toned, Jaleton takes great care of his appearence, from his latest hairstyle to the general appearance of his body. He often helps with the heavy lifting tasks in the Lower Caverns when he is doing chores, if only to help him keep his toned appearance. He makes good use of his dark, almond eyes, physique and dazzling white smile that contrasts his dark tanned skin, when seducing the young women of the lower caverns and craftfolk.

Having several 'aquaintances' among the Weyr's weavers, Jaleton always manages to end up with the lastest fashions and makes a great show of wearing them.

Personality:

Jaleton is very self-obssessed and unsociable unless he can use someone for a purpose, at which point he can be very charming. The only people he shows any kind of constant respect for are dragonriders, with his respect growing with the colour of the dragon from green to gold.

Even at his young age, Jaleton has had several relationships and has a one turn old son by a journeywoman harper at Igen Weyr. He rarely visits the journeywoman and their son, believing that they cannot help him further himself as a dragonrider and so are therefore not worth the effort to journey back to the Weyr of his birth. When is comes to Candidates, Jaleton believes himself to be better than those Candidates who are Hold or Craft bred, seeing himself as coming from 'pure' dragonrider stock. This often leads to him being hated by those Candidates who are not Weyr bred, and even those who are Weyr bred as he saunters about, certain that he will Impress a bronze like his father.

Although many people know Jaleton's opinions, they do not know why he has these opinions. The truth is that he is determined to please the father who took little notice of him, to feel wanted by the bronzerider by Impressing a bronze himself. His egocentricity has only been increased by his mother who dotes on her only child. Deep down, Jaleton is very lonely and seeks the only way he knows to ease that loneliness by looking for young women to spend a night or two with.

History:

Jaleton was the result of a brief liason between greenrider Jalsilla and the then wingsecond bronzerider O'ton. Jaleton grew up hardly knowing his father who only visited the child because he felt it was his duty to do so, which lead to a deep need to impress his father later in his life. Jalsilla raised Jaleton when she could, which was not often as she had to care for her dragon first and foremost. Although Jaleton lived in his mother's weyr, he was raised mostly by the Lower Caverns women. While most children would have had a deep resepct for the Lower Caverns women after being practically raised by them, Jalsilla never let her son forget that he was the son of dragonriders and therefore better than those in the Lower Caverns. It is from his mother's firm belief in this that Jaleton's scornful attitute towards those of the Lower Caverns has arrisen.

Even when he reached apprentice age, Jaleton refused to apprentice to a craft, sure that his future lay with the dragons and in becoming a great bronzerider like his father. At fourteen he stood on the Sands for the first time, but left disappointed. Over the next four Turns, Jaleton stood time and time again, refusing to Impress. The taunts of those who he had scorned while repeatedly stating that he would Impress bronze, made him bitter and unhappy. This effect was compounded when Journeywoman Eriosi gave birth to their son Eriton, and insisted that they Handfast and bring the baby up together.

Jalsilla realised that her son was becoming worse by the day and so in early month three of Turn One, she suggested that they both transfer to a young Weyr in the South, to make a brand new start with the endless possibilities of the Southern Continent. Seeing this journey as an escape from the miseries of his life and Eriosi, he gladly transferred to Icundsa Weyr with his mother. They had barely been at the Weyr for two months when Dualth laid her first clutch and Jalsilla's green Foyoth Searched Jaleton to stand for Icundsa's first clutch. At first Jaleton thought to decline but at his mother's insistance, he accepted and became a Candidate.
