DragonWings Weyrwoman Syrallin Pern
Goldrider of Ignith

Persona's Name: Syrallin
Location: Zakat Weyr
Status: PC - Active & Owned
Rank: Weyrwoman, Goldrider, Journeywoman Seacrafter
Former Rank: Junior Goldrider at Fort Weyr
Gender: Female
Age: 27
Birthplace: Minor Hold near Tillek
Father: Gallin - Journeyman Seacrafter
Mother: Nasyra - Holder's Daughter

Appearance:

Syrallin has long, straight blond hair with a golden shine and a thickness that Syrallin is quite proud of, even if they technically aren't her achievements. Her perfect figure is however, even if it comes with the job. The length of her locks is a more considerable achievement considering her position. Syrallin refuses to cut her beautiful hair to a length more suitable for a dragonrider, and somehow manages to braid it all into a knot at the nape of her neck before each Fall.

She has a lithe build, though is surprisingly strong for all her delicate features. Not particularly tall or short she has a well proportioned and toned body and is fully aware of her beauty, which she always uses to her advantage, or at least makes no attempt at hiding. She has only a light tan on her pale skin despite the turns in the sun, especially those on the Southern Continent. Her eyes are of an undeterminable green/blue/gray color that seems to vary in hue depending on the lighting and the observer.

Personality:

Syrallin was never particularly shy or quiet, though as child she was far more reserved and preferred independence to command of any situation. She was always a quick learner however and excelled in her classes. From a very young age she knew her manners and could be the most polite, sweet and innocent-appearing child you ever saw. She was always free willed and determined too, and when she apprenticed to the seacraft those traits were tested to their limits. It wasn't easy being a girl on a ship, and Syrallin quickly learned that if you give but a handspan someone would push you around. Her shipmates quickly learned how sharp her at first hidden temper could be, and the girl was intimidating for all her apparent sheltered innocence. As Syrallin gained some rank she knew that to go further she couldn't remain in the background for long. For a ship was a tight domain and no place for a solitary life if you wished to climb ranks, for if you didn't take command and make the rules someone else would make them for you.

As a Junior Queenrider at Fort she was stuck in a tight system of responsibilities, but her determination and temper were never subdued even with her firm belief in duty. If she believed that something was done the wrong way, or if something was unfair, she never faltered in stating her opinion. That got her in trouble more often than not, and she was told to have more respect for her seniors. Her reply to that was that she showed respect where it was due and if she didn't like something it was for a reason, maybe one not personal at all, but if it involved a person she'd let them know, senior or no.

History:

Syrallin was born in a Minor Hold on the coast near Tillek, to a younger daughter of the Holder and a Journeyman Seacrafter. Her mother never fostered her, and raised the girl herself at her father's Hold. Nasyra beamed with pride of her daughter, hoping to make a fine match for any Lord Holder some day. The girl naturally knew full well how to use charm to get her way and was beautiful as well. She could be a perfect lady, and never failed to amaze everyone with her charisma. On top of that Syrallin was exceedingly smart and determined, though Nasyra somewhat wished her daughter was less stubborn when it came to maters concerning her. The girl was far too free willed and independent if you got to know her, but Nasyra hoped it'd pass with age.

It didn't. Syrallin's grandfather and father both spoiled her rotten and unlike many hold girls she knew what she could achieve herself and what she was capable of. At the age of thirteen Syrallin followed her father into the seacraft, much to Nasyra's horror. It couldn't be helped though, and Syrallin was soon assigned to a trading ship. It was a hard life, besides the rigorous duties she was also female, and her shipmates laughed and called her useless. After less than a sevenday Syrallin couldn't stand it anymore, but instead of leaving she let her temper rage, telling a particularly aggravating man exactly what she thought of him. The first mate intervened before the man could seriously injure the girl, which he was about to do in blind anger. The others looked on the incident with great amusement, and a few soon "adopted" Syrallin into their group.

The turns flew by, and Syrallin made it to Journeywoman at 18. In less than a turn, as her ship was sailing back towards Tillek, she was searched in Hold Gar by a 'rider from High reaches Weyr. Not quite sure what to do Syrallin finally decided to stand on the Sands. As she stood among the small group of girls watching the gold egg wobble she for the first time felt like maybe she had a chance to become a dragonrider, a hope she suppressed during her time as a candidate. The egg cracked and the little golden head immediately looked at Syrallin - then turned away. The rejection was a far harder blow than Syrallin ever expected and after a sevenday of pulling herself together again she looked for a way back home. A rider from Fort was at the Weyr, but before Syrallin could ask about him giving her a ride he searched her for Fort's clutch. Syrallin flat out refused, and finding it too disrespectful to ask for a ride went to look for one elsewhere.

Getting a message to her Hold with the news, she found out that her ship was heading out in a few sevendays and that she'd still be welcome aboard it. Gathering a few marks for a ride with a trader train she started her trek back south. The train turned towards Nabol, then continued on through Fort Hold to Southern Boll. They were just in time to Fort Weyr to see the Hatching, and reluctantly Syrallin attended, feeling the memories of disappointment all over again. She watched as the hatching proceeded, a bit envious of all that Impressed, wondering how she was worse than them. Surely a green could impress her… Before she realized what was happening Syrallin was looking into a pair of draconic eyes, and a voice was telling her "My name is Ignith."

Syrallin never quite figured out how she made it through the following chaotic events in her wondrous daze, or what happened next. All that was running through her mind was that she Impressed a dragon, a gold, the beautiful Ignith!

The young pair's days at Fort flew. Syrallin was happier than she ever was before, and at first followed along with every duty she was ever assigned, obsessed with doing everything perfectly. The older goldriders found the perfectionism detrimental however, when Syrallin always wanted to please someone else. Finally their eventual increase of peremptory commands got to Syrallin and she started to regain a bit of her former self. She started stating the way she wanted things done, and when she was told that her seniors knew better she became even more unwavering. She became known for her temper and her determination, and for her lack of fear for any challenge.

When plans for a second new Weyr were proposed, Syrallin was the first to volunteer, eager to obtain the much hoped for chance. Bronzerider R'ven of Ista and Syrallin were finally picked as suitable leadership for the small Weyr, and were told to look for a location. They were the ones to fully explore Zakat Island with its many promising valleys, and finally decided on the large, extinct volcano as the location. Soon craftsmen were at work building, and the first riders were arriving. Three Wings were hastily formed in the Weyr, and Syrallin with R'ven found it the biggest challenge of their lives to complete the Weyr and get the Wings ready for fall in time before the Pass started in just months. Somehow they managed the task despite all odds and predictions, driving their people hard and themselves even harder. As thread fell the Wings rose to meet it, ready after daily drills and constant meetings. The Pass has just begun though, and many hardships still lay ahead.

Syrallin was finally the senior Goldrider as she always wanted to be - she was a Weyrwoman. It was a task far less glorious and more demanding than she anticipated, though she took it all in stride. In the months that passed at Zakat Weyr she hardly had time to breathe or even think of herself. Her gold was soon due to rise however, and then the Weyrleader would be chosen. R'ven was acting Weyrleader until then, though Syrallin was never particularly fond of him or his commanding manner, and didn't expect him to win the flight - not if she could help it.

To her surprise she found herself in his arms the morning after the flight. Looking back she realized he was probably the most probable winner anyway, though she never wanted to admit it. Well, the flight decided the Weyrleader - for now - and Syrallin decided matters could be worse. She had far more important things to worry about however, with all of Zakat to run.

Dragon's Name: Ignith
Dragon's Color: Gold
Dragon's Age: 8
Dam/Sire: Transfer (Fort Weyr)

Appearance:

Ignith is a medium-sized gold, with a bright golden hide. She has slender bones and overall dainty features, and is exceedingly graceful for a dragon her size. She has a threadscore on her right side of her haunches, and a slightly darker muzzle than the rest of her hide.

Personality:

Ignith is much like her rider, though a bit less burdened by duty. She enjoys relaxing as well as a nice, long flight. She considers mischief a bit below her, but not by much as she enjoys a good laugh now and then. Ignith is very strong willed like her rider, and unfortunately has a matching temper. Sometimes she is extremely petulant before a flight, though usually she shows few signs until the moment the flight starts. One thing for sure is that she always tests the bronzes to their limits before she's caught. The real trouble is with her eggs, and she can be extremely protective, and it is all Syrallin can do to sometimes have her stand back as the candidates approach - though that doesn't happen often.
