Sweepriding
Sweepriding means overflying a section of land, usually done for all the territory the Weyr protects. Zakat's resources are too stretched to allow for that, so sweeps are only flown over the 3 Fall Sectors. (The other areas are protected by grubs - that weren't exterminated before their purpose was rediscovered, unlike in the areas around the Holds.)

Sweepriding includes observing weather conditions (needed to determine Fall flight patterns, warn Weyr of approaching danger), watching for any irregular activities (outlaws, pirates off the coast), warning Holders of possible danger, stopping by a Hold if a message flag is flown, and other tasks like flaming greenery around Holds. The Weyrleader or Wingleader may assign additional sweep tasks and duties, and the 'rider reports to his Wingleader (Wingsecond/third) after each sweepride.
